Kiwi (ehemals Iris)

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Iris - active mother dog seeks her own home Iris has been in foster care in Switzerland (canton BL) since October 30, 2026 A Romanian animal rights activist contacted our association and urgently requested help: a mother dog and her four puppies (born on March 31, 2025) were in great danger and were to be killed. The dedicated woman saved their lives and brought the little family to our Land of Hope farm, where they could grow up in safety. Iris has lovingly and caringly looked after her puppies. Now the little ones are old enough for their own paths and Iris should finally find her happiness. This is Iris: • adult female dog • friendly to people • social with other dogs • active and energetic • well socialized Iris is an open and friendly dog who enjoys human contact. She is straightforward and tolerant in dealing with people and brings a nice mix of energy and balance. What Iris is looking for: Iris wants an active and loving home where she can be physically and mentally fulfilled. A sporty family who likes to be outdoors would suit her well. She also needs to get to know everyday life in a household and life in Switzerland yet. With the right guidance, however, she will quickly settle in and develop into a great companion. Who will give Iris a happy life of her own after her time as a caring mother? *Weight from veterinary appointment on March 18, 2026 Note: A dog's character usually only shows itself when it can settle outside a shelter or a sanctuary. As soon as the dog is allowed to travel to a foster home, we will supplement the character description with the insights gained. Adoption: If you are interested in this dog, please fill out the adoption application. You will find the link to the application above.

About Kiwi (ehemals Iris)

What life with Kiwi (ehemals Iris) looks like

Kiwi (ehemals Iris) is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at VSAT – Verein Schweizer AuslandTierschutz in Switzerland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiwi (ehemals Iris), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiwi (ehemals Iris)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. VSAT – Verein Schweizer AuslandTierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiwi (ehemals Iris) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiwi (ehemals Iris) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — VSAT – Verein Schweizer AuslandTierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kiwi (ehemals Iris) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiwi (ehemals Iris) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with VSAT – Verein Schweizer AuslandTierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiwi (ehemals Iris) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
