adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Kiwi has found her home! Her story: Our sweet young female dog Kiwi currently lives in her foster home in the Odenwald and is learning a lot there. Kiwi has quickly adapted to her new beautiful life in a home with yummy food, lots of affection, and animal dog and cat friends. She learns new stimuli and impressions almost every day, she is trained, played with, and rested. With her fluffy, light, and soft fur, her long legs, and her very slender build, the 9-month-old and approximately 62 cm tall Kiwi looks simply cute and feisty. Kiwi is an open and playful, very loving and cuddly young female dog. Her foster mom describes her with many adjectives: funny, silly, lively, smart, clumsy, trusting, and temperamental. But she also finds peace, snuggles with her dog buddies, and loves her cuddles with her foster mom. In new environments, Kiwi orientates herself well to her foster mom and goes into new situations with curiosity. Kiwi generally finds people interesting, so visitors are welcomed friendly and curiously. Okay, at the beginning, she does bark a little… – but she has to also be just a bit protective of her hunting dog sibling and watch the house and yard. Walking with Kiwi is fun: dog encounters usually proceed more reservedly, strangers, cars, and bicycles are usually ignored. The moments where Kiwi reacts uncertainly and with barking are becoming fewer. Also, driving is going smoothly. The long-legged, active fluff ball has a lot of fun learning. She would be definitely enthusiastic about any dog sport or be happy with active people. With the right people who can give her security and continue to train her, she will be a dream dog. Kiwi is now entering puberty. She will sometimes test her owners with her behavior and her limits. Positive reinforcement training and loving consequences will help her to get through this time well and emerge as a strong team. Kiwi comes to her new home microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Of course, she also brings her EU pet passport. For an adoption fee of 500 Euros and only after a positive Kiwi has found her sweet name from Anke F. A big thank you also goes to Gabriele G., who took on a monthly sponsorship for Kiwi. As of: 19.09.

Stand: 19.09.2024

About Kiwi

What life with Kiwi looks like

Kiwi is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiwi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiwi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiwi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiwi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiwi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiwi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiwi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
