adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Kiyan has found a permanent home! His story: Kiyan finally escaped the public shelter Baia Mare in November and shows everyone how great he is! Kiyan demonstrates what it's like to come from a frightened dog in a Romanian kennel. He arrived at his foster family and initially stayed in his crate before taking over the apartment. His foster home let Kiyan settle in and waited until he was ready to explore outside. Now, he's thrilled when it's time for his usual walk and exudes joy. He enjoys going for walks, though he's not particularly interested in other people, cyclists, or drivers. In new situations (like going through a self-opening glass door), he reacts fearfully. He tends to avoid other dogs but greets them friendly if they show interest. Overall, it's clear that he feels comfortable and happy on walks now. Kiyan allows familiar people to touch and stroke him, and he even enjoys his fur care. He helps a bit with putting on and taking off his harness (puts his head through and waits more or less patiently for all clips to be closed). Visitors are carefully sniffed and, if interested, approached. As a guard dog, he would not be suitable. He never barks at visitors or the doorbell. The household cat accepts him and tends to avoid him. Driving is now possible. He jumps into the car on his own and usually behaves quietly during the ride. He can be left alone for some time without a problem. However, he usually prefers the company of the only dog. Another dog in the household would likely be great for Kiyan, as he has learned a lot from the only dog in his foster family and this dog gave him comfort and courage during the initial period. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Kiyan

What life with Kiyan looks like

Kiyan is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kiyan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kiyan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kiyan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kiyan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kiyan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kiyan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kiyan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
