KK26K2 - Kato

European Shorthair · Female · 2 months

Kato is a very sweet and playful girl with a big heart. ❤️ She has paralyzed back legs, which means she needs some extra care and support. At the moment, Kato is unfortunately not yet potty trained and needs help with her daily care. But Kato absolutely doesn't let her disability hold her back! She is cheerful, playful and thoroughly enjoys attention and companionship. 🐾 With the necessary physiotherapy and extra exercises, there may still be room for improvement. There is even hope that as she builds more muscle, she could lose her incontinence partially or completely. We are looking for a very special home for Kato: someone who is willing to take on her specific care needs, wants to give her the necessary time and support and preferably already has experience with cats that need extra care. 🏡 Kato would also love to grow up among other cat friends. A home where she can play, learn and develop together with other cats would be ideal. ❤️ Who wants to give Kato a chance and discover with her how much she can achieve? 🐱💕

NL·Show original

About KK26K2 - Kato

What life with KK26K2 - Kato looks like

KK26K2 - Kato is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Dierenbescherming Mechelen in Mechelen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting KK26K2 - Kato, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KK26K2 - Kato?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenbescherming Mechelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KK26K2 - Kato on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KK26K2 - Kato if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenbescherming Mechelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KK26K2 - Kato already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KK26K2 - Kato isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenbescherming Mechelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know KK26K2 - Kato and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
