Adopt Knappie

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

Our Knappie is not only smart but also very affectionate. He is about 6 months old and ready to find his own nice spot. Knappie was born outside (with an umbilical hernia, which was corrected during the neutering) and came to us when he was about 4 months old. Because of that, he is a bit cautious with people at first. He won't jump into strangers' laps immediately, but give him some time and patience, and you'll be rewarded with a real cuddly bottom who thoroughly enjoys attention (and yes, even starts to drool from being petted!). Because Knappie is still a bit uncertain around people, we start with an introduction program. This means that you come by at least twice a week to spend time together and build a bond. This way, you get to know each other well and we can see if there's a real connection. When we notice that Knappie is ready, he can go home with you. Knappie is perfect for someone looking for a cat to watch blossom and build a strong bond with. He is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, dewormed and de-flopped. Interested? Send an email describing your home situation, your experience with (shy) cats, and what you expect from Knappie.

About Knappie

What life with Knappie looks like

Knappie is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Dierentehuis Zoetermeer in Zoetermeer.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Knappie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Knappie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Zoetermeer handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Knappie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Knappie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Zoetermeer will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Knappie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Knappie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Zoetermeer early rather than rehoming privately; they know Knappie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
