adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Koa has found a home! His story: Koa sits in his hut, frozen with fear, and can barely comprehend what is happening to him and that he is now in safety. This approximately 2-year-old male dog was rescued together with 30 other dogs from the notorious Horror Shelter in Suraia. Many of the dogs perished there from starvation or freezing, and the survivors have deep emotional and physical wounds. Koa appears physically unharmed, but his soul is deeply scarred. Currently, Koa is still very much in his fear. The new situation unsettles him, and he does not yet understand that people no longer want to harm him. He was easily vaccinated and shows no aggression towards people, he simply lets it happen. He gets along well with fellow animals. Whether that also applies to cats, we cannot say at the moment. His size is estimated to be around 50–55 cm. Koa would like to be invisible. Yet, he is a breathtaking tricolor male dog with expressive eyes that still look fearfully, but also with increasing curiosity and a small spark of hope for a better life. For Koa, we are searching for an experienced foster home or – even better – a permanent home with people who are patient, empathetic, and ideally have experience with fearful dogs. One should not expect anything from Koa at first, but rather let him settle down and then show him in small steps that the world can also be beautiful. A confident only dog could help him, or the support from an experienced, positively reinforced dog training class. Koa is still young and deserves such a chance. We believe that he will one day reward the people who give him this chance with great loyalty and gratitude. Koa travels vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered. He brings an EU Pet Passport with his travel arrangements. Stand: 14.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Rebecca P.! Du hast Koa seinen schönen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 14.03.2026

About Koa

What life with Koa looks like

Koa is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
