Köbes

Male · Kitten · 11 months

Köbes, a small cat, came to the shelter in October 2025 at approximately 4 weeks old with two sisters. The kitten was found in the garden, where it was likely born to a feral stray cat. In the first weeks, it was quickly noticed that something was wrong with Köbes, as while his sisters grew and became stronger, Köbes appeared fragile and weak. It was suspected that inbreeding was the reason for his poor development. His heart and hips were of particular concern: an ultrasound revealed that Köbes' heart is not only enlarged but also has several holes. The veterinarian gave him only a few weeks to live after this examination. Additionally, his unsteady gait indicates that his hips and knees are not as strong as they should be in a young cat. Currently, Köbes receives heart medication and a monthly painkiller injection, and he is surprisingly coping well - he even handled the anesthesia for the castration with ease! Therefore, we want to achieve what was initially thought impossible: Köbes should leave the shelter and find a loving home! Köbes is incredibly social and thrives in the company of other cats, but he takes longer to get used to people; therefore, he should never be placed in solitary housing. Due to his care needs, a home in apartment living is sought; a secure balcony or secure outdoor access would be desirable. Who will give our little invalid a chance at a home of his own?

About Köbes

What life with Köbes looks like

Köbes is a large puppy/kitten cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Köbes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Köbes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Köbes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Köbes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Köbes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Köbes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Köbes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
