Gila

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

Five years ago, Gila arrived at Adoptamics with Golfi, after a lifetime living in filth, isolation, and abandonment. He found a home a long time ago. She still waits. When we rescued Gila, she barely knew anything other than surviving. She lived confined among rubble and dirt, with few stimuli, love, or attention. And yet, she never completely lost that quiet sweetness that still defines her today. Now, Gila is a beautiful, serene, and incredibly noble grandma. She has that subtle gaze that speaks softly, one that doesn’t need to call attention to itself to stay with you on the inside. She loves human company and forms very special bonds with the people who dedicate time and love to her. She doesn’t like loneliness or feeling confined; she always seeks to be close, accompanying in silence. She’s a smart, sensitive, and very docile dog. She walks well on a leash, doesn’t require much physical effort, and enjoys calmness, quiet routines, and small moments of connection. Although the years start to show in her body, her eyes still sparkle when someone approaches to pet her. Gila doesn’t deserve to spend her life behind bars. After so many years waiting, we dream of her finally knowing what it means to rest in a real home, feeling loved, and sleeping soundly knowing she will never be abandoned again. IMPORTANT: She is incompatible with cats and dogs, so she needs a family without other animals. About Gila

What life with Gila looks like

Gila is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Adoptamics in Spain.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Adoptamics handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Adoptamics will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Adoptamics early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
