Koetje

Female · Senior · 10 years

Koetje is a sweet, elderly lady (10 years old), but you wouldn't know it by her behavior. She thoroughly enjoys attention and walks, and if possible, she also loves playing with a ball. Be warned: you won't get it back easily! She prefers to keep it in her mouth the whole walk, until you exchange it for a tasty biscuit. Koetje can run loose and responds well to her name. When you call her, she comes back to you immediately. Koetje is social with other dogs, but she gives overly energetic dogs a clear correction. Additionally, Koetje is very eager to learn. She came to us without knowing any commands, but now she can already sit on command. With the help of a treat, she learns incredibly quickly. We therefore expect her commands to expand quickly when sufficient time and attention are given. We expect Koetje to have some form of separation anxiety. She prefers to be with you all day and enjoys hugging and being together. When you leave, she lets you know clearly at first. After a while, however, she also seeks her rest again. With a good and calm build-up, we think Koetje will eventually be fine being alone at home for a while. We place Koetje in a quiet and stable household, where someone is at home regularly. Any children in the family are preferably 12 years or older.

NL·Show original

Daarnaast is Koetje erg leergierig. Ga terug

About Koetje

What life with Koetje looks like

Koetje is a senior dog waiting at Dierentehuis Arnhem in Netherlands.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koetje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koetje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Arnhem handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koetje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koetje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Arnhem will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koetje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koetje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Arnhem early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koetje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
