Adopt Kolja

Husky · Male · Adult · 4 years

Hello, I am Kolja and came into the animal shelter as a precaution. I am a very lively and active dog with a lot of energy who wants to be mentally and physically challenged. With my lively nature and enthusiasm for foraging games, I am a cool partner who likes to work together with my people. But it requires experience, structure, and consistency. Would you like to know more about me? I am not a dog for just anyone— but for the right people, I am a real gem. I am an independent, opinionated male dog who knows what he wants and what he doesn’t want. Clear, fair rules and the ability to find compromises in cohabitation are required. Soft couch companion? No! Adventure partner with edges? Absolutely! Here’s what you should know about me: I am very well tolerated with female dogs of different breeds and am very adaptable there. With male dogs, it depends on mutual liking. Unfortunately, I tend to show status aggression and have even bitten before—so I need experienced people who can live with me in a healthy emotional boundary. I am not averse to conflicts in everyday life and am happy to engage in and initiate them. I also defend resources. I know the basic commands, but my lead walking can be better or worse. If something doesn’t suit me, I tend to jump. I generally have no problems with people and am open. What I am looking for are people who let me be a dog, don’t want to bend me, and at the same time provide clear, reliable structure. A home without small children, preferably with a female dog and a house and garden. It must be clear that in cohabitation with people, I will initially be led with a muzzle. I could also integrate well into a dog group. Pure outdoor living would also be possible. I am not a “please-to-please” dog or bound closely to my people. Rather, I am a character-strong partner who demands respect and understanding. If you have experience with demanding dogs and are interested in a real original, you will find the right partner with me. Would you like to meet me? Then feel free to contact my animal care team at the phone number or fill out the form below as thoroughly as possible. Gets along with other dogs. Best placed with a resident dog (second-dog home).

About Kolja

What life with Kolja looks like

Kolja is a large adult husky dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle initially, has shown aggression and resource guarding, needs structured environment

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kolja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kolja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kolja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kolja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kolja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kolja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kolja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
