Koos

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Koos is an old acquaintance of ours; he was brought to us as a kitten and quickly found a new home. Below is the story from his previous owner. Koos is a very sweet, affectionate, and adventurous tomcat with a strong personality. He is 3 years old. Koos loves cuddles and can happily fall asleep comfortably on your lap. Currently, he lives with three very gentle cats in a house that has a spacious outdoor cat enclosure where he can go outside. Unfortunately, this is not the ideal situation for him, and he needs more. It would be perfect for Koos if he could go outside in a safe place and enjoy roaming around, running, and climbing! Social interaction with people is extremely important to him. You’ll always get a little head bump as a thank-you gesture after filling his food bowl. He’s very curious and loves to peek over the fence whenever he hears something going on next door! Once inside the house, you won’t lose sight of Koos easily, as he loves being close to you. The combination of Koos’s strong character and the gentle nature of his housemates doesn’t work well together. He chases two out of the three cats. He’s not aggressive, but the other cats don’t feel safe around him. He does accept the leadership of one of the female cats quite well. He absolutely loves catching flies, though he’s not very good at it 😄. Koos doesn’t like car rides and will then poop and pee in the travel carrier. He’s familiar with children aged 6 and older.

About Koos

What life with Koos looks like

Koos is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Flappus in Netherlands.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Flappus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Flappus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Flappus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
