Adopt Koppány

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Update: Koppány is still full of energy despite her age, which she has difficulty burning off at the shelter. She does not like stressful situations and would rather quickly get away from them, and she does not look for trouble. She loves to have her belly rubbed, and she takes the treat with her paw when she can, but we always forgive her for that. Otherwise, she is obedient, sits and lies down, but a walk by the leg is not her strength, but then she hasn't really practiced it yet, so we can't really blame her for that. She would greatly benefit from a good owner, but we do not recommend her as a first dog. Koppány was a dog on a leash. It's infinitely sad that she was able to get rid of her leash with her owner's death. She doesn't have a chip and has never been vaccinated. It is said she is aggressive, but so far we haven't experienced it, hopefully this too has disappeared along with the leash.

About Koppány

What life with Koppány looks like

Koppány is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koppány, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koppány?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koppány on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koppány if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koppány already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koppány isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tappancs Állatvédő Alapítvány Szeged early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koppány and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
