KUMPEL

Male · 8 years

KUMPEL is a happy dog who really wants to find his person and urgently needs a warm home with a soft couch. KUMPEL was abandoned after his owner's amputation. Immediately upon arriving at the animal shelter, he was placed under the care of the outpatient team, where it turned out that his aggression was caused by pain associated with many illnesses. Under the care of doctors and hospital nurses, he became much more open, learned to wear a muzzle, and tolerate grooming procedures. His favorite part of the day is going out of the kennel outside. When he is on the run, he often doesn't want to return and tries to convince the caretakers to go further for a walk. Unfortunately, he still has health problems, so he must take regular medication. Overall, he is a dog who is eager for food, unless he finds his pills. Then he starts negotiating for the best treats, which he also treats as an opportunity to get attention from the caretakers. It must be said honestly that he is not a typical easygoing labrador, he tends to demand food and protest during grooming procedures. However, you can't blame him for this given his experiences. Although we don't know all of his story, it doesn't take much time to guess that it wasn't the easiest. People who know him better, see him more often, and spend more time with him are rewarded with unlimited trust and love. What KUMPEL really needs is his own person, who will show him that not everything has to be painful, who will give him attention and a sense of security that this dog really needs. He keeps himself clean nicely. He likes pats and cuddles, but due to his complex medical situation, he may push away from his neck. We know it's a matter of trust because he allows everything with caretakers he knows. However, we do not recommend him as a dog for children who won't be able to read the signals themselves. He gets along with other dogs quickly, passing by runs and sections ignores other animals. Due to heart problems and age, he should not be with an energetic and/or younger dog. The companion should be calm. Ideally, for his health, he should be an only dog. Caring for a companion does not require a lot of experience with dogs, but requires time and determination. KUMPEL is looking for a person who will love him unconditionally. The guy has some bad habits, but they are the result of the fact that the dog did not have proper care and was left to deal with many things on his own, which he shouldn't have had to. We believe that with someone who wants to take care of him, devotes attention to him, and patiently and consistently shows him the correct behavior, he will quickly learn good manners. This is a dog who is ready for adoption and every day shows that he wants to meet his person.

Kumpel szuka człowieka który go pokocha bezwarunkowo.

About KUMPEL

What life with KUMPEL looks like

KUMPEL is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Heart problems requiring regular medication, history of pain-related aggression, needs muzzle training, requires patient handling due to trust issues

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting KUMPEL, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KUMPEL?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KUMPEL on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KUMPEL if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KUMPEL already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KUMPEL isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know KUMPEL and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
