Kurt

Male · Kitten

Kurt is a sweet, affectionate, and reserved cat who quickly wins hearts with his cheerful nature. He is initially a bit cautious around new situations or strangers, but with patience, he warms up and shows his loving and clingy side. Once he has gained trust, he enjoys long cuddles and being close to his humans. As a kitten, Kurt is full of energy and curiosity, loves exploring his surroundings, playing with toys, and engaging in play with a fellow feline. After a good play session, he also enjoys snuggling up to his human for rest. Kurt is house-trained and desires a home where he can live out his active nature. Therefore, he will only be placed in a home where, after a proper introduction and neutering, he can enjoy outdoor access in a secure area. Since kittens should not be raised alone, Kurt will only be placed with a similarly aged, same-sex companion or in a home with an existing, compatible cat of similar age. A playmate is essential for his social development and well-being. We are looking for a loving home for Kurt with people who enjoy an active, playful young cat and give him the opportunity to explore the world. Those who give him time, affection, and a suitable feline friend will gain a cheerful, affectionate, and loyal companion.

About Kurt

What life with Kurt looks like

Kurt is a puppy/kitten cat waiting at Hamburger Tierschutzverein in Hamburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kurt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kurt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hamburger Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kurt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kurt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hamburger Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kurt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kurt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hamburger Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kurt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
