Kyta

Chow Chow · Female · Adult · 5 years

Kyta is a 5-year-old Chow Chow who has been with a wonderful foster family and is now ready to find her forever family. Here is what her foster family have said. She is a beautiful, intelligent and independent girl looking for a home that understands her unique personality. Once she’s settled, she is affectionate, calm and quietly playful, with a lovely gentle nature when her boundaries are respected. She is fully house trained, sleeps well through the night, and can be left alone for short periods. Kyta walks nicely on the lead, although she can pull when excited, and due to her prey drive and recall still being a work in progress, she will need to be kept on lead whilst out and about. She enjoys one to two walks a day (and prefers a lie-in over early mornings!).Kyta is a clever girl who already knows commands like sit and loves enrichment activities such as Kongs, puzzles and scent work. She’s very food motivated and enjoys learning new things. At home, she enjoys her own space just as much as spending time with you. You’ll often find her relaxing in the garden, watching the world go by, or curled up somewhere cosy indoors. She travels well in the car and is confident around traffic and everyday noises.Kyta could live with another calm dog with the right introductions and would be best suited to a home without cats. Due to her nature, she could live with children of secondary school age who understand how to give her space and approach calmly. She is good with visitors when introductions are done gently and at her pace, and she has no history of resource guarding or destructive behaviour.Kyta does have a high-maintenance coat that will require regular grooming, especially during moulting season, along with routine ear and eye care. Her new family will need to be committed to keeping her comfortable and healthy.Kyta is a special girl who may seem a little aloof at first, but with time, patience and understanding, she forms a lovely bond and will even sneak in a few kisses when the mood takes her.Could you be the home Kyta is waiting for?

About Kyta

What life with Kyta looks like

Kyta is a adult chow chow dog waiting at RSPCA Cornwall Branch in Saint Columb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kyta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kyta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Cornwall Branch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kyta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kyta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Cornwall Branch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kyta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kyta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Cornwall Branch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kyta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
