Lāčplēsis & Magda

Domestic Shorthair · Female · Senior · 20 years

Also, the shelter is usually just a foster stop for a discarded, unwanted animal on its journey through life. Two yowling residents of the shelter have become "their own." We love them, care for them, feed them, and treat them. Even if adopters were to appear, who these cats have unsuccessfully waited for for years, Magda and Lāčplēsis's homes are the shelter. The decision that the animals stay at the shelter, not offered for adoption, was made because their age is already measured in double digits and the animals have chronic health problems. True, the yowlers mourn in the shelter walls - living here is the best they have experienced, because neither of their previous lives had been cat-friendly, whereas now special attention is given to the elderly's well-being. Black coal Magda has remained completely alone after her owner's death. In the shelter environment, Magda is unable to open her heart to a person - you can touch and pet her, but not gain the cat's trust. Otherwise, the black coal kitten is calm, a worshipper of other cats. The black and white Lāčplēsis is a frightened street cat. Once thought to be traumatized, the kitten was found on Lāčplēsis street and taken to the shelter, where it turned out not to be traumatized, but the person who had left the kitten in the winter shelter felt sorry for the street kitten.

About Lāčplēsis & Magda

What life with Lāčplēsis & Magda looks like

Lāčplēsis & Magda is a senior domestic shorthair cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lāčplēsis & Magda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lāčplēsis & Magda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lāčplēsis & Magda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lāčplēsis & Magda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lāčplēsis & Magda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lāčplēsis & Magda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lāčplēsis & Magda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
