Adopt Lagata

Shar Pei · Female · 1 year

Lagata is my name, and I moved into the animal shelter with my parents. This was our great fortune, because in our past, our deteriorating health condition was simply ignored. Now, we were introduced to a veterinary clinic, and our health issues are finally being addressed. Accordingly, I still have some treatments ahead of me, including at least one eye operation, as I can barely see through my rolled-in eyelids. I also have various infections in my ears and on my skin, but these can be treated with medication in the best case scenario. The fact that I can barely see does not bother me much. After a short orientation phase, I explore my surroundings curiously. I also greet people directly and without reservation. Among us, I am the most active, especially considering my age, and I look forward to extensive exploration tours. Toward other dogs, I am very friendly, but unfortunately, not every dog understands my body language, which is indeed somewhat special for my breed. For my future home, I wish for people who are familiar with my breed or a similar one, because the daily care I require is not to be underestimated. Children are no problem for me as long as they respect my limits. Do you feel like you are being addressed? Then contact my caretakers right away. I look forward to your call.

About Lagata

What life with Lagata looks like

Lagata is a large adult shar pei dog waiting at Tierheim Essen in Essen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires eye surgery for entropion (inward-rolling eyelids), has ear and skin inflammations needing medical treatment, nearly blind, requires daily grooming care

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lagata, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lagata?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Essen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lagata on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lagata if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Essen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lagata already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lagata isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Essen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lagata and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
