adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Laika was found pregnant in the woods. It is believed she was abandoned to avoid taking care of the puppies and a new mother. Fortunately, she was found in time and entrusted to Raluca's care. Just two days later, the puppies arrived. The proud mother gave birth to five puppies, one of which unfortunately did not survive. The four remaining puppies are doing well and developing very well. Soon, Laika's babies will be moving into their new homes, and Laika should not be left alone. She is safe with Raluca and well cared for. However, she also lives in the outdoor area, and an alternative to a loving family is not what she needs. Laika is a little sunbeam and loves human contact. She is neither shy nor fearful and is accustomed to interacting with people. The cute female dog is clingy and loves lots of cuddles. However, she is never distant. Laika shows every day what a friendly and balanced female dog she is and how much she would love to be part of a family. The pretty furred-nosed one is approximately 2 years old and measures about 58 cm in height and weighs about 25 kg. She has beautiful, flowing cuddly fur, and her gentle gaze reveals the gentle soul that is Laika. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs. A compatibility with others with cats has not yet been tested. Whether she was allowed to live in a household in her previous life, we do not know. However, she already adjusts well to the leash. She may still need to learn a few points in the Dog ABC, but Laika already proves that she is an adaptable and uncomplicated female dog. We are sure that Laika will develop into an indispensable family member and a wonderful companion. We are therefore looking for a loving family that will show her the beautiful sides of dog life with empathy, patience, and consistency. Also, the opportunity for a foster home would not be something Laika would want to miss. Laika travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and dewormed to her new family. Her EU pet passport is already ready. Have you already wrapped your paw around Laika? Then feel free to contact us.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 25.07.2026

About Laika

What life with Laika looks like

Laika is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Laika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Laika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Laika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Laika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Laika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Laika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Laika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
