Lapo

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

At our animal welfare shelter, we work every day to combat feline homelessness and violence, through rescues, veterinary care, and sterilization programs. Our goal is to offer a new chance to abandoned cats, often invisible, restoring their dignity and a safe life. Today we present Lapo, a FIV-positive kitten found in a feral cat colony in very poor condition, weakened, and unsterilized. His story is similar to that of many other cats, victims of abandonment and lack of birth control. For this reason, sterilization remains a fundamental tool to prevent suffering and the spread of diseases. Lapo arrived with us tired and energetic, but with a still sweet gaze. Now he is under close attention: we will put him back in shape with proper care, correct nutrition, and lots of love. Once stabilized, we will proceed with the sterilization, an essential step for his well-being and responsible management of feline colonies. Being FIV positive does not mean a cat cannot have a happy life: with the right attention, Lapo can live peacefully in a home, in a protected and loving environment. For this, after his recovery, we will seek a family aware and ready to welcome him and offer him the stability he has never had. Adopting a cat like Lapo means making a concrete gesture against feline homelessness and animal violence. Come and visit us and meet him and all the other cats at our animal shelter: we are open every day until 12. Together we can make a difference. About Lapo

What life with Lapo looks like

Lapo is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lapo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lapo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lapo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lapo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lapo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lapo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lapo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
