Lara

Female · Adult · 5 years

Hello, I am Lara. So far, I haven't really gotten to know much and am therefore very excited in new situations. My caregivers unfortunately don't know exactly where I came from or how many owners I've had. I'm probably a victim of the internet, passed through many hands. Although I try to tell my caregivers everything, they don't understand me. And that brings us to my main problem: I bark very often and very loudly. My caregivers believe, however, that I can be retrained to learn to hold my bark, and that once I learn to do so, my behavior will improve. Holding my bark is still very difficult for me, and I need to learn that as a first step. Life is also very exciting, and every day I learn new impressions… I am very friendly with people, but also very stormy – therefore, no small children should live in my new home. Living alone, I still don't know how to do that and must learn it in small steps. Also, I haven't been told to walk properly on the leash yet. So, I still like to do my own thing and barely notice my person. But that has to and can be worked on with me, because I learn quickly and willingly. With other dogs, I am relatively compatible, but these would have to be able to endure my temperament. Therefore, a home without other animals would probably be the better choice for me. Ideally, I would like people who can do such wonderful things with me, like mantrails or tracking. Maybe I can even be trained for hunting, because I find it great to follow all kinds of scents on the ground. In any case, I should attend dog training classes with my new people, because I still have a lot to catch up on and learn. So, dear people, I think that's enough for a brief introduction. Everything else you'll find out during a personal visit to our shelter. Make an appointment soon and come to visit me soon.

About Lara

What life with Lara looks like

Lara is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
