Lara

Female · Young · 2 years

Lara is a spayed smooth-coated Fox Terrier female, presumably born in 2024, who was wandering near a village but didn't belong to anyone there. She found refuge at the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. She is an exceptionally friendly and people-oriented young lady dog who is always in a good mood. Her middle name is “Curiosity,” as she shows interest in everything happening around her. True to her breed, she has quite a bit of temperament—she’s very lively and full of energy. However, after getting enough exercise and stimulation, she settles down nicely. Lara is smart and extraordinarily eager to learn. She would make a wonderful family dog, bringing great joy especially to families with stable children. She gets along exceptionally well with medium- and large-sized canine companions; with other female dogs, it depends on whether they like each other. As a second dog, she’d therefore be better suited to a male dog. It’s not known how she’d react to cats. She’s looking for loving, active people who have plenty of free time, are patient and consistent in their training, and preferably live in a rural area or on the outskirts of town. Previous experience in dog ownership would be an advantage. The female dog stands 38 cm tall at the shoulder and weighs 8 kg.

HU·Show original

About Lara

What life with Lara looks like

Lara is a small young adult dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
