Adopt Lassie

Cocker Spaniel · Female · Adult · 7 years

Lassie could live with children aged 5+. She could potentially live with other dogs and cats or small animals, although we have no history of her behaviour around such animals. Lassie is an incredible girl who has been an absolute pleasure to care for. She is a beautiful, sweet and gentle soul who hasn’t put a paw wrong during her time here at the shelter. She absolutely loves human company and thrives off being made a fuss of. She would like a family who are around a lot of the time and can give her plenty of attention. Lassie has taken everything in her stride without so much as batting an eye, she has had baths, bandage changes and ear drops administered whilst in our care and has been perfectly behaved for all of this. Lassie arrived into our care in a bit of a sorry state. She was suffering from chronic ear infections, with a matted coat and one nail so overgrown that it had curled into her paw pad. Despite the neglect she has experienced, she still has so much love to give and is just desperate to make friends with her humans and have some affection. She is also a well-behaved girl when meeting other dogs, she has a very calm and laid-back nature – nothing seems to bother her! We genuinely cannot fault this wonderful little lady. Everyone who meets her instantly falls in love with her. She is a very special dog and so deserves to finally find a forever home where she can be spoilt rotten and put her days of neglect well and truly behind her. She adores her human friends and all she wants is to be loved in return by her very own forever family. Lassie has undergone a toe amputation and has also required prolonged treatment for ear infections whilst in our care. Whilst her ears don’t currently require any further treatment, any potential rehomers should be aware that this will possibly be an ongoing issue and will need careful monitoring for future flare-ups. These are likely to be classed as pre-existing conditions and won’t be covered by pet insurance. The rehoming team will discuss Lassie’s veterinary history in further detail with any successful applicants.

About Lassie

What life with Lassie looks like

Lassie is a small adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lassie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lassie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lassie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lassie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lassie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lassie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lassie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
