Adopt Latka

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

♀, born 9/2016 - calm - friendly in 12247 Berlin-Steglitz Latka is a 9/2016 Jack Russel Terrier(?)-mix female dog with a shoulder height of ca. 30 cm. Latka has spent her entire previous life with a family on the countryside. She is a calm little lady dog, friendly, loving, and kind. Latka likes children and lived peacefully with all the animals on the farm: dogs, cats, and chickens. She knows how to walk on a leash and lived in the house for a while too. Unfortunately, Latka had to leave her home for family reasons. She enjoys the peace, affection, and security in her foster home. By now, she has adapted to the new rhythm of going for walks and eating and is house-trained. She handles being alone for hours with the male dogs in the foster home without any problems. Since Latka was used to living on a farm and sometimes ran around freely there, she would greatly appreciate a well-secured garden at her new home. In the city center, we do not see Latka. Latka is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped and will be rehomed. She has already undergone an operation, where a milk duct was removed and she was neutered at the same time. She is currently recovering from a rather serious op. The suspicion of Cushing's Syndrome still exists, and she is receiving the appropriate medication until the presence of the disease is either definitively confirmed or ruled out. She is doing well, happy, Jack-Russel-type intelligent, and has a thick fist behind her ears. The veterinarians are satisfied with her. She responds well to treats, but she has already lost a kilo on her foster home, as she likes to run and has fun with varied walks. She gets along well with the male dogs she is with. Latka is in a foster home in 12247 Berlin-Steglitz. The adoption fee for Latka is 400 Euro. Would you like to give Latka a home? About Latka

What life with Latka looks like

Latka is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Latka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Latka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Latka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Latka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Latka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Latka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Latka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
