Layla

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Layla (born 09/2018) is a cheerful Pug-Cocker mix and a true all-rounder: clever, active, people-oriented, and at the same time a wonderfully relaxed cuddle bug. She loves experiencing things together with her people, learns quickly, and enjoys cozy hours on the sofa just as much afterward. Since the end of September, Layla has been living in a foster home in Hamburg. She has already been through quite a lot: from puppyhood on, she lived with her family, who then emigrated abroad. Unfortunately, the people who were supposed to adopt Layla then decided against her. Now this uncomplicated female dog is looking for a home where she can finally settle in permanently. Layla is exceptionally friendly and easygoing. She is used to living with five children and gets along with cats and other dogs as well. Whether as the only princess or alongside a confident first dog, both are conceivable for her. With other dogs, however, she would like to be the center of attention at times. For this, she needs people who kindly but clearly convey to her that she is not always first in line. A confident dog companion should be able to set boundaries for her if necessary. For her age, Layla is remarkably agile and really enjoys using her brain. Sit, down, roll over, catching treats, and even walking without a leash are already part of her repertoire. Dog sports such as agility or other shared activities could therefore be a lot of fun for her. She is also happy to join in playing indoors and outdoors. Sometimes she has her bouncy minutes and "chats" quite talkatively during them. ;-) She can just as easily relax afterward, calm down, and cuddle at length. Layla charmingly combines a love of adventure with coziness. Being left alone is still difficult for her at the moment. We are therefore looking for people with whom she has to be alone as little as possible – for example, an active couple working from home, the option of taking her to the office, or adventurous seniors who enjoy spending time with her. Reliable dog-sitting would also be an option. Layla is looking for a loving home with people who enjoy having a clever, active companion and who at the same time give her clear guidance. She wants to be part of things, learn new things, and enjoy affection. Once her little adventures of the day are done, there is hardly anything she enjoys more than snuggling up with her people. Layla is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-adoption check.

Layla (geb.

About Layla

What life with Layla looks like

Layla is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Layla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Layla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Layla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Layla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Layla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Layla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Layla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
