Layla

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Layla is unstoppable, she is a true frognature, playful and active. Our strikingly beautiful Layla has a high energy level and loves to play, frolic, and snuggle – with fellow animals (Kleopatra, Mischa, Jack2 are in the same enclosure) and with people. That the young and exceptionally beautiful female dog so energetically and lively wags through life is not taken for granted, for Layla was rescued alongside 32 other dogs in a rescue operation from the city culling in Barlad, a dark place, after local, communal authorities ordered the culling of around 200 dogs in March 2025. Already at the first visit by the animal rescuers at the culling shelter, the open-nosed Layla successfully drew attention and was immediately taken in. Layla doesn’t much like feminine reserve, she is a true wild thing. Her pretty snout squeezes through all the bars and tries to gain the cuddles of the waiting animal caretaker’s hands, the enclosure is unfortunately far too cramped for the dogs living there, they especially lack stimulation and affection! As soon as a fellow animal (Kleopatra; Mischa) is placed on the roof of the hut for photos or petting in Layla’s enclosure, she wants to jump up too, she then impatiently works on her animal caretaker with her paws, nudges her distinctly, and fights her way forward – why should Layla settle for second place? ‘Layla first’ is her motto and has been so far. Layla belongs, along with Nuri and Ginger, who were also rescued, to the alpha females among the 32 rescued dogs, who are very present and desperately want to be seen. With Layla as the playful frognature, pure joie de vivre will be in the new home. The medium-sized, natural beauty is happy with suitable, caring applicants so she can finally start a new, carefree chapter and escape the confines of the enclosure. Update 13.03.2026 new photos. About Layla

What life with Layla looks like

Layla is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Layla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Layla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Layla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Layla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Layla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Layla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Layla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
