Leïa

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Leïa, small female Irish setter born on 19.04.15, arrived at the shelter because her owner was no longer able to provide the necessary care. Leïa arrived very thin, covered in fleas, with very damaged fur. She is slowly recovering but the road is still long. Leïa is a lovely and very affectionate dog. She can live without problems with children. Indoors, she is clean and well-behaved. A home life will be preferable so that she has easy access to the garden. Stairs should be avoided. Leïa is diabetic and needs insulin injections in the morning and evening. Because of her diabetes, which was not treated for too long, she has become blind. She gets around well once she has memorized the layout of the place and this does not prevent her from wanting to run in the garden. Walks will always have to be secured with a leash. Okay with dogs. Not tested with cats but it will probably not be a problem if there are cats in the household. Identified 250 268 712 247 948, deparasitized. Leïa benefits from the doyen contract in partnership with the 30 Millions d'Amis foundation. Adoption fees are reduced and the foundation provides assistance with veterinary costs. Leïa is in foster care so contact is only by email at . Describe as much as possible your environment (house or apartment, enclosed or not garden, children, other animals, time of absence...).

FR·Show original

About Leïa

What life with Leïa looks like

Leïa is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Refuge Animalier du Pays de Landerneau in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leïa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leïa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Refuge Animalier du Pays de Landerneau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leïa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leïa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Refuge Animalier du Pays de Landerneau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leïa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leïa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Refuge Animalier du Pays de Landerneau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leïa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
