adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Leia has found her luck! Her story: Bistrita, Romania. Our little Leia was found to be heavily pregnant on a field near Bistrita. A woman had taken her in temporarily and cared for her well. Unfortunately, she couldn't stay much longer as the family already has 2 dogs. In the meantime, she has given birth to four healthy puppies and they are now eagerly waiting to travel to their loving forever home. Leia is a loving and affectionate female dog. She gets along well with other dogs and even cats. She is people-oriented and enjoys attention and lots of cuddles. With the right training, Leia will surely be a great female dog for various activities—whether hiking, bike rides, or trips to the park. Our little mouse would be thrilled to finally experience the typical dog life, with everything that comes with it. After an exciting day, she looks forward to cozy evenings on the sofa, surrounded by her loved ones. Leia is currently around 2 years old and about 45 cm tall. She counts as a small to medium-sized dog. She is just at the end of her puberty. Nevertheless, several challenges will likely await the new dog-human team. She needs people who approach her with love and patience, giving her time to settle in and forgiving her occasional mishaps. A visit to dog training classes can also be a meaningful addition after a certain period of getting used to things. Leash walking, house training, and being left alone are still foreign words to Leia. She will test her limits and may even forget some things she has learned. But once this phase is overcome, she will undoubtedly be a wonderful companion for life. We hope so much that she can now experience the beautiful sides of life. Leia is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. She brings an EU pet passport with her and can be adopted after a positive foster home experience. We would also be very happy to have a foster home for the sweet mouse! Who will give her a loving forever home? Many thanks to Lena! You gave Leia her name. Date: 06.03.

Vielen Dank an Lena! Du hast Leia Ihren Namen geschenkt. About Leia

What life with Leia looks like

Leia is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
