Leila

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Leila is still young, yet her body already tells the sad story of many street dogs. For a long time she has had to keep functioning even though her strength was long since spent. A life lived from one reserve to the next – and still carrying on, from litter to litter. All the more remarkable is her inner strength: Leila's eyes are clear, her posture attentive and socially oriented. Despite all the deprivation, she has not given up. That is exactly what gives hope. Young females like her often recover surprisingly well once they finally find peace and their bodies get, for the first time, the chance to build up substance instead of only losing it.Leila is, however, still a fearful and rather submissive female who needs time to build trust. She approaches new situations cautiously and orients herself strongly toward people who give her a sense of security.Leila has already been spayed and now receives complete basic care, including parasite prevention, vaccinations and a microchip. With care, time and a loving home, this emaciated young dog will become a beautiful, elegant and strong companion. We are looking for a loving and caring family for Leila, or a foster home where she can regain her strength and, at her own pace, show what a wonderful treasure she is! Leila is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated and will be rehomed through the animal welfare association Vierbeiner in Not e.V. after a positive preliminary check.General note regarding our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs even open up faster at home and show sides of themselves that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new setting. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it.We are convinced that with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop in a positive direction.

About Leila

What life with Leila looks like

Leila is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Leila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
