Lejuś

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Lejuś is a dog born in 2023. He came under our care as a very scared and uncertain dog, who in situations of strong stress reacted with aggressive behaviors primarily resulting from fear. Over time, thanks to a sense of security and a calm approach, he began to open up and showed his true nature. Lejuś is a sensitive, cautious dog who needs time to build trust. In contact with strangers, he maintains distance and does not seek contact forcefully. However, once he gets to know and accepts someone, he allows touch and establishes a relationship. In his case, it is very important to respect boundaries and give him the opportunity to get to know new people at his own pace. He is a rather calm and not very barking dog, with a medium energy level. He enjoys spending time on the runway, where he likes to explore his surroundings and take care of his own dog matters. He also gets along well with other dogs. Lejuś loves treats, which can be a great help in further work on his self-confidence and learning new skills. One of them is walking on a leash - at the moment he has not yet mastered this skill and will need a calm, patient introduction to walks outside the safe area. Lejuś needs a conscious and patient caregiver who understands the needs of anxious dogs and will not expect him to be open immediately. The most important thing for him will be a sense of security, predictability and the ability to build relationships without pressure. This is a dog that needs time, but when he starts to trust, he shows how much he has to offer. Lejuś is dewormed, vaccinated, flea-free, chipped and neutered.

Lejuś to pies urodzony w 2023 roku. To pies raczej spokojny i mało szczekliwy, o średnim poziomie energii.

About Lejuś

What life with Lejuś looks like

Lejuś is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lejuś, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lejuś?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lejuś on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lejuś if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lejuś already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lejuś isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lejuś and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
