Lemmy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

A special guy, not a loser! Even though Lemmy's Schnauzer breed isn't immediately apparent, he's definitely there! Lemmy doesn't see his time at Tierisch Belzig as punishment - he sees it as a vantage point to search for his new forever home. In his previous home, he received a lot of training, but like any living being, there's always a certain percentage that remains open until 100% success. In this case, that percentage is called food aggression. He was asked too much, and the rest is clear - Lemmy used his teeth. This only happens when Lemmy can't trust. He needs to learn and the human needs to earn his trust. Lemmy is otherwise a dog who loves to work, in the right measure, of course. It makes no difference to him whether it's tracking, obedience, or just accompanying. Despite all the circumstances, Lemmy needs HIS human, who understands him, accepts him, leads him 100% and explains the big wide world to him. If you can offer Lemmy a foster home with adoption option, please contact us or fill out the application form.

About Lemmy

What life with Lemmy looks like

Lemmy is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schnauzernothilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lemmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lemmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schnauzernothilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lemmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lemmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schnauzernothilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lemmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lemmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schnauzernothilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lemmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
