Adopt Lemmy

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Say hello to Lemmy the giant puppy! Lemmy is a Caucasian shepherd that was brought into our care as a fake stray. He was in an awful condition when he arrived with us and his coat was completely matted and he was covered in urine and faeces. Poor Lemmy is only around 5-6 months old and was terrified when he arrived , he had to be carried to and from his kennel for the vets and groomers because he was so scared he would plant himself on the floor. Thankfully Lemmy has been making amazing progress in the last few days … He’s had a trip to see the girls at salty pawz and they all teamed up to save as much of his coat as possible. Lemmy was amazing for his groom and enjoyed every second (including all the cuddles!) and the team managed to keep most of his coat which is a big win considering how matted he was! Lemmy can be quite nervous of new things, especially men! But once he has had some time to sniff and slowly say hello he quickly comes around and that butt is doing a wiggle like no tomorrow! Lemmy has been having slow socialisation sessions, meeting new people, saying hello to dogs and having play dates with them, exploring new noises and sights and smells and he has been doing absolutely wonderful. With continued work on this and training he will continue to thrive and become a well rounded adult boy. Caucasian shepherds are livestock guardian breeds that come with a lot of hard work, he will be looking for a home that has experience with larger working breeds so that he can have the best chance at thriving in his new home . He will need to attend regular training classes to continue working on his life and social skills. Giving Lemmy canine friends to play with and Learn from has been essential for his growth! We believe he would be best suited to a home with a neutered resident canine that likes to play but also has a chill side , to help boost his confidence. Lemmy could also potentially live with cats and children 12+ depending on intros done at the centre .

About Lemmy

What life with Lemmy looks like

Lemmy is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Cardiff Dogs Home.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lemmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lemmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cardiff Dogs Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lemmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lemmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cardiff Dogs Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lemmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lemmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cardiff Dogs Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lemmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
