Leni

Female · Adult · 6 years

Leni came into our care at the beginning of March after she had bitten her previous owner. Here we experience Leni as a calm furball who enjoys spending time with her caregivers and letting them stroke her tiger-striped coat. Typical cat, Leni wants to decide for herself when and where she is touched. Since Leni has repeatedly attacked in the past, we are looking for a cat-experienced person for her. In these situations, Leni was in a real state of emergency and had to be isolated due to foreign danger. She is not very adaptable and reacts to stress quickly with aggressive behavior. So that Leni does not fall into this uncontrollable state of emergency in her future home or put anyone at risk, we have started training her here: At a certain signal, Leni is sent to a place where she can be alone and relax. This training must continue in her future home. A room is also needed where Leni can be sent during her state of emergency and where she can spend several days if necessary. Here Leni gets special food and sedatives that she takes without problems and will need to be given to her in the future.

About Leni

What life with Leni looks like

Leni is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
