Leni

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Leni (born 02/2022) has been living with her foster carer in 29646 Bispingen since May 2026, and she has settled in wonderfully there. She is very playful, full of joy for life, and closely bonded to her primary caregiver. When Leni is happy, her short tail wags like crazy – which is why she already earned the affectionate nickname "Leni Popowackler" in Romania. Strangers now meet Leni with curiosity and friendliness. She comes over and wants to make contact. With her primary caregiver, she shows a particularly strong bond and enjoys the security that a familiar person gives her. Leni lives with her foster carer in a large mixed pack and absolutely needs a canine companion in her future home in order to be happy. Living together with other dogs gives her security and is simply part of life for her. Leni is already used to a harness and leash. However, she is now accustomed to everyday life off-leash on a large, securely fenced forest area with her pack, so leash manners and walking along a road need to be rebuilt in small steps. Despite all her positive development, Leni remains a female dog whose body language her people need to read well. If she feels very insecure, threatened, or confined, she clearly signals that she is uncomfortable. Her people must recognize and respect these boundaries. Leni should be given the opportunity to cope with situations at her own pace, so several getting-to-know-you appointments with her are absolutely necessary. Leni was once rescued from the Public Shelter Busca and had experienced little that was good in her young life at first. All the more wonderful it is to see how much joy for life is now alive in her. The cautious dog who in Romania repeatedly ventured up to the bars of the enclosure only to back away again has become a playful and curious dog who orients herself closely to her people and dogs. We are looking for people experienced with dogs who understand her body language, give her security, and at the same time leave her the necessary freedom. A sociable and suitable canine companion is a prerequisite for her. Anyone who would like to get to know Leni should be prepared to build her trust step by step. Leni is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Wearing a safety harness is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness (3 straps) can be purchased for only €25.

Leni (geb.

About Leni

What life with Leni looks like

Leni is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Leni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
