Adopt Lenny

Male · Senior · 15 years

No happy ending for Lenny? We originally thought that Lenny had found a permanent foster home where he could spend his twilight years. Unfortunately, it has turned out to be more challenging than expected. He gets very stressed and anxious whenever he is separated from his human. Therefore, he cannot stay there and is now urgently looking for a new home or a permanent foster home. For this small male dog, rules and guidelines are essential because otherwise, he tries to make all the decisions himself, which leaves him feeling completely overwhelmed. Lenny was rehomed in 2015 into a lovely home. Sadly, his owner fell seriously ill, and at 14 years old, Lenny had to move back into the animal shelter. After being a pampered prince at home for ten years, he is finding it difficult to adjust to life in the shelter. The confident male dog does not like being alone and wants his human with him all the time. At 14 years old, he also has a few aches and pains. Lenny needs heart medication and a liver-friendly diet. Ideally, Lenny would like to be the only ruler in his new home, but he might (just) tolerate a nice female dog as a companion. Small children should not be in the household, as Lenny prefers a quieter life. Despite this, the little senior is quite spry and still goes on brisk walks. Anyone who would like to meet the little prince can contact us via the contact form.

About Lenny

What life with Lenny looks like

Lenny is a senior dog waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
