Lenny

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

If the story is true, Lenny was brought to us by acquaintances of his former owner because they lacked a permit to keep him. Accordingly, we don't know much about him. What we do know is that dealing with him, at least so far, hasn't been easy. Generally, he is a sweet dog, but unfortunately, he is very stress-sensitive and can quickly become overexcited in certain situations. When Lenny is relaxed, the world is in order, and he can be handled quite well. But if he is on edge, he immediately gets worked up and it's hard to calm him down. Impulse control is the top priority when dealing with him: in stillness lies strength! No ball playing, no roughhousing, and always make sure he stays calm and is otherwise, for example with head work, adequately stimulated. Unfortunately, he is constantly exposed to stress and noise at the animal shelter, which isn't good for him. We can't change the situation at the moment. Currently, it's also quite difficult to convince him to go for a walk, even though that is the most beautiful part of the day for our dogs. It takes a small eternity for his handler to get him to the door. Away from the shelter, everything is fine. The young dog makes us very sad, and we hope with all our hearts that we will soon find knowledgeable, experienced Pitti fans who will give him a second chance. If you are interested in meeting Lenny, please write us a detailed email. This animal was abandoned.

DE·Show original

About Lenny

What life with Lenny looks like

Lenny is a medium-sized young adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Köln in Cologne.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Köln handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Köln will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Köln early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
