Leo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 5 months

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Leo has found a home! His story: Leo is one of those puppies whose joy of life simply rubs off on everyone. Together with his siblings Olive, Momo, and Barney, he was found alone in Cluj, Romania – without a mother, without a home, but with a heart full of courage. The siblings were then placed in a Romanian foster home. From there, Leo was able to travel to a loving foster home in 92342 Freystadt, where he begins to explore the big world in small steps – and he does it really well! Leo is now fully settled and has already explored every corner of the house and garden curiously. He shows himself to be a very open-minded little puppy who is happy about every visit. People he meets are friendly, and he finds children particularly exciting – sometimes so much so that he gets a bit overexcited in his play and underestimates his biting power. Here it is: guide lovingly, set boundaries, and stay committed. Leo also shows interest in other dogs – although they are greeted with barking at first, once they sniff each other, a friendly game is no longer in the way. Currently, Leo finds going on a leash only moderately exciting and prefers the zigzag technique – but he is making daily progress. Household and everyday noises like hairdryers, dish clattering, thunder, or garden tools do not faze him. The big city with all its attractions has already been introduced to Leo – there is so much to sniff that the actual "business" is often forgotten. Tractors and trucks are still not entirely to his liking, but practice is ongoing. His favorite pastime? Clearly: driving! As soon as someone puts on shoes, Leo is already sitting start-ready in his transport box. Leo is currently practicing basic commands – as long as a treat is in sight, that also works really well. Recall is currently more of a friendly recommendation – unless the treat packet rustles enticingly. At mealtime, he shows discipline: he usually waits for the command to start eating. Right now, he is also being trained to be called away from the bowl and to take the food away. Even though Leo has already learned a lot, further patience and loving consequences will be required in his new family. Because: puberty is slowly setting in – boundaries are being tested, the gaze is getting bolder, and it is clear that from the small Leo a real character dog will soon emerge. His fluffy baby fur is gradually fading, the face is maturing – and the adventure spirit is growing. His new people should be ready to accompany Leo through this important developmental phase with humor, structure, heart, and a lot of patience. Positive reinforcement, clear rules, and a loving approach will help him become a fully happy, secure companion. A visit to a positively working dog training class would be a valuable support – for Leo and also for his people. Leo is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings his EU pet passport and will be available after a positive review. Now Leo is looking for a forever home – a family with whom he can go on adventures together. Many thanks to Franzi – you gave Leo his name! Now only his happy ending is missing. Date: 14.07.

Ganz klar: Autofahren! Vielen Dank an Franzi – du hast Leo seinen Namen geschenkt! Jetzt fehlt nur noch sein Happy End. Stand: 14.07.2025

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
