Leopold

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Leopold, 11-year-old Burmese cat, was surrendered to us because living with dogs in his previous home caused too much stress for him. He is extremely affectionate, very loving, and clingy. Leopold wants to be the sole king in his new home, which is why he is looking for a single place without other cats. He also wants to have outdoor access in the future. Due to his health issues, we would like to place Leopold in a quiet, stress-free household. Health: When Leopold came to us, an emergency dental procedure was unavoidable. He had many rotting molars that needed to be removed. Now he can finally eat without pain. When he arrived, Leopold had diarrhea for days. We suspect the cause was IBD, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. With the appropriate medication, his digestion has already improved significantly. Many cats with IBD show a tremendous health improvement with a strict diet change. Some animals can even live without medication later on. In the shelter, this strict, specialized feeding is unfortunately not possible due to group housing, as the food intake of the individual cats cannot be monitored without gaps. Therefore, we recommend that the new owner feed Leopold a hypoallergenic, highly digestible food (e.g. HA from Purina or Hypoallergenic from Royal Canin) in the future to stabilize his digestion without additional medication. Currently, Leopold is showing symptoms of a stress-related bladder infection. He is being treated with medication for this. Since stress (with other cats, relocation, etc.) can trigger such flare-ups, the new home should be as stress-free as possible. Additionally, a dietary supplement (e.g. Vesicat) can be given over a longer period of time, which should shorten or reduce the flare-ups. Leopold has been tested, vaccinated, chipped, neutered, and dewormed. Would you like to meet him? You can reach us by email or phone: 44 (Mo-Fr: )

About Leopold

What life with Leopold looks like

Leopold is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutz Schwyz in Switzerland.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leopold, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leopold?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Schwyz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leopold on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leopold if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Schwyz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leopold already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leopold isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Schwyz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leopold and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
