Adopt Levke & Lakritz

Female · Adult · 5 years

Levke, Lakritz, and Lotus have come into the animal shelter through a security measure, and unfortunately, we know nothing about their past. After their time in quarantine, they took a few days to get used to each other. Since then, their cohabitation has been going well, but only when they are together. Levke and Lakritz, in particular, did not get along with other cats, so we had to separate them. Now it shows that the two really like each other, so we are matching them as a pair. Levke is a strong-willed cat with a very clear idea of how her environment and also her people should function. And if something in her immediate surroundings is to be changed, she makes her opinion on it very clear. Levke is therefore not a cat who simply accepts everything without comment—it brings character, presence, and a good dose of self-confidence. At the same time, Levke also has a very cuddly side and enjoys being cuddled very much. One should, however, be a little careful with her not to overdo it. If something gets too much for her or something doesn’t suit her, she makes it clear and can even pinch or hiss. Levke means no malice by this, but rather a very direct way of sharing her boundaries or her insecurity. Whoever takes her signals seriously and can read them well will certainly get along well with her. Once Levke arrives and feels secure, her skepticism becomes noticeably more subdued. Lakritz was also initially a bit unsure and fickle. In the meantime, she is very uncomplicated. Her favorite pastime is to stretch out on the ground after the first petting and to be stroked. She is very trusting, immediately at the ready when the door opens, and likes to make herself comfortably on someone’s lap, where she only lies still for a moment due to her fidgetiness. During her intake examination, a heart murmur was detected; however, the cardiological examination turned out to be fortunate, showing no heart condition. For both of them, we would like to find a home where they can later also satisfy their curiosity in the outdoors. Children should be at least out of elementary school age and know how to handle cats. For cat beginners, they are not a good match. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Levke & Lakritz

What life with Levke & Lakritz looks like

Levke & Lakritz is a adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Levke & Lakritz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Levke & Lakritz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Levke & Lakritz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Levke & Lakritz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Levke & Lakritz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Levke & Lakritz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Levke & Lakritz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
