Adopt Lexi

Mixed Breed · Male

📍 Current Location: Vienna Lexi is a neutered mixed-breed male dog born in January 2021, originally surrendered by his owner to an animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. Currently, he is in Vienna. He is an exceptionally friendly, gentle, and well-socialized dog who greatly enjoys the company of humans and quickly forms a close bond with his trusted people. Cuddles are his favorite – he loves to be spoiled and expresses his gratitude with his calm, affectionate nature. Generally, Lexi has a rather laid-back demeanor and enjoys spending a lot of time comfortably in his dog bed. He loves it so much that sometimes he needs to be motivated to go for a walk. But as soon as he is outside, he really comes alive and thoroughly enjoys his walks. On the leash, Lexi already walks calmly and confidently. Everyday noises, traffic, or bicycles do not faze him – he meets new impressions with a calm and curious demeanor. He also easily handles typical household noises like vacuum cleaners or mixers. He is a real smartie - learns quickly, picks up routines fast, and reliably responds to his name. During walks, he sometimes stops to observe people with interest and delights in every friendly encounter. With men, Lexi is initially a bit cautious and needs a moment to build trust. Once he has overcome this brief getting-to-know-you phase, he behaves kindly and open with them. Children have already met Lexi and got along well with him. Lexi is house-trained and travels quietly in the car. The alone time is currently being practiced, but works well for an appropriate amount of time. His behavior towards fellow animals varies – often he is uninterested, occasionally he barks briefly, but remains well controllable. Cats present no problem for him with gentle acclimation.

About Lexi

What life with Lexi looks like

Lexi is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lexi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lexi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lexi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lexi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lexi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lexi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lexi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
