adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Leya has found her people! Her story: Leya and Luke are ready to embark on new worlds. The two adorable puppies were found by a friend of our animal rescuer Flavia by the roadside, just in time to avoid being hit by a vehicle. Their lifesaver didn't hesitate and took them both in. Now they are in safety and searching for a home. Both are simply cute and friendly. They are puppy-type playful and practically beg for attention and cuddles. Leya has already mastered the appropriate gaze, which she skillfully uses. Who can resist when the dark beauty with the white shoes and white accent colors looks at you with this gaze? She is a true little princess. Leya gets along well with other dogs, but whether she also gets along with cats, we cannot say. It is likely that Leya will remain small. Leya is looking for people who won't have too many expectations of her and will show her how a normal dog life works. She is still a baby and has a lot to learn. One or another mishap shouldn't be held against her, and Leya should always be guided with a positive reinforcement training style. She is looking forward to her new life with beautiful nature walks, many snuggling hours, and also a visit to puppy school. Puppies should not be left alone as much as possible in their first year of life. Additionally, the more demanding pubertal phase is approaching. The hormone chaos turns the lives of the little rascals upside down. They "forget" often everything they have learned so far and their ears are on full alert. Therefore, it is especially important in this phase to be consistent— but lovingly—trained. And there is also good news: This phase will pass! At 4 months, Leya can start her big journey. Then she will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, with her EU pet passport in hand. adoption requirements adoption process But also a foster home would be an option for a happy future. Thank you, Janina J.! You gave Leya her name and thus an identity. As of: 05.10.

Stand: 05.10.2024

About Leya

What life with Leya looks like

Leya is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
