Leya (Лея)

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Leia ran through the city streets, and no one paid attention to the thin, exhausted dog. A city resident took the dog to a clinic, but she didn't have money for the animal's treatment, so she turned to Svitlana, the owner of the animal shelter "Manana," for help. Leia was admitted to the clinic with signs of abdominal distension, exhaustion, chronic enteropathy, respiratory insufficiency, and severe abdominal pain. An ultrasound was performed (according to the conclusion, there was atony and dilation in the intestines). The animal was quickly taken for a diagnostic laparotomy. During the operation, five intestinal resections were performed, part of the intestine with a large number of worms and adhesions was removed. After the operation, Leia was transferred to the intensive care unit for stabilization, infusion therapy, and pain management. The diagnosis for Leia was a tapeworm infestation, with structural damage to the intestines, and impaired peristalsis (she ate, but food did not pass from the stomach to the intestines, causing constant vomiting due to stomach overfilling). The veterinary doctors managed to restore peristalsis and intestinal passage (a comprehensive anti-parasitic treatment was conducted). At present, Leia is on supportive therapy and gradually recovering. The animal shelter spent 7500 hryvnias on Leia's treatment. On February 9, 2022, Svitlana, the owner of the animal shelter, took the dog home for rehabilitation. On February 17, 2022, Svitlana, the owner of the animal shelter, contacted us, asking for help to pay the clinic debt of 7500 hryvnias, as it is a large sum for the animal shelter where Leia became the 105th foster dog of Svitlana, and there are also 110 cats living in the shelter, all of whom need to be fed. Let's help the animal shelter "Manana" pay off the clinic debt! P.S.: Leia is a young dog (about 1.5 years old), very kind, affectionate, and a good dog who can become a faithful friend for life!

About Leya (Лея)

What life with Leya (Лея) looks like

Leya (Лея) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Kyiv Oblast in Ukraine.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇺🇦Adopting from Ukraine

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leya (Лея), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leya (Лея)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Kyiv Oblast handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leya (Лея) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leya (Лея) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Kyiv Oblast will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leya (Лея) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leya (Лея) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Kyiv Oblast early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leya (Лея) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
