Liam ♂ 🇭🇺

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Liam is a medium-sized neutered mixed breed male, born around January 2016. His history has been marked by ups and downs: he lived as a village stray for five years before being secured. In 2022, he finally found a loving home, but fate did not have it in mind - his owners fell seriously ill and could no longer care for him. So Liam is now waiting again for people who will give him a permanent home. Liam is an intelligent, attentive and people-oriented dog who enjoys the closeness of his caregivers. He loves to be brushed and even knows the command "Gently stroke". Indoors he behaves pleasantly: he does not destroy anything and has lived as both indoor and outdoor dog. However, he is quite a clever fellow - he can open doors independently, which is why his new home should be well secured. The active male needs regular exercise and mental stimulation. If he gets bored or understimulated, he tends to escape. With consistent, loving guidance and sufficient activity, Liam shows what a great companion he has in him. He generally gets along with other dogs as long as they do not act dominant. Both males and females are possible if the sympathy is right. However, cats are not his friends, and poultry or other small animals also arouse his hunting instinct, which is why he is not placed in a household with such animals. Liam is looking for people with dog experience who appreciate his clear, confident nature and give him security as well as fair boundaries. Loud or rough people unsettle him, which is why a quiet, respectful environment is ideal for him. He gets along well with older, understanding children; there are no experiences with toddlers. Whether apartment with enough exercise or house with securely fenced garden - Liam wants above all a loving home where he can finally arrive forever. Whoever wants to give a faithful, clever and strong-willed dog a second chance will find a loyal companion in Liam.

DE·Show original

About Liam ♂ 🇭🇺

What life with Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 looks like

Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Hundehilfe Hinterland e.V. in Biedenkopf.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Liam ♂ 🇭🇺, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Liam ♂ 🇭🇺?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hundehilfe Hinterland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hundehilfe Hinterland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hundehilfe Hinterland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Liam ♂ 🇭🇺 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
