Lila

Chinese Crested · Female · Adult · 7 years

Our Lila was severely injured by a human before her stay at the animal shelter and unfortunately lost an eye in the incident. Additionally, she suffered from nervous damage which is currently manifesting in a slight head tilt and balance problems. These symptoms are slowly improving, but we cannot predict whether and when Lila will fully recover. Despite this, the little dog is extremely people-oriented, constantly seeking closeness and physical contact with her caregivers. If she feels abandoned, she tends to bark and howl. We believe Lila cannot be left alone and are looking for adopters with a lot of empathy and even more time to help her heal from her traumatic experiences. Lila only eats puréed food from her hand. This is likely also related to the effects of the incident and it is also unknown to us how this behavior will normalize. Dealing with Lila requires patience and empathy, her leash handling is currently quite chaotic. She is an attentive, curious dog, so she wanders in all directions during walks and tries to locate and grasp all environmental influences. A quiet living environment would therefore be desirable for the lovable little whirlwind. Lila gets along well with other dogs, but she doesn't have much interest in fellow dogs and prefers human contact. Lila's coat is somewhat thin, this is because she is likely a hairless dog or a hairless dog mix. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us preferably by email. Describe in the email how the dog will live with you and send us a phone number. A caregiver will then contact you. Animal descriptions are based on observations at the animal shelter or on information from third parties and do not represent guaranteed properties.

About Lila

What life with Lila looks like

Lila is an adult chinese crested dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
