Adopt Lilly

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 13 years

Our greatest treasure at our shelter is undoubtedly our dog sister Lilly 😍. When this little personality dashes towards us in anticipation of a walk today, it's hard to imagine the condition Lilly came to us in. A vigilant finder found Lilly lying somewhere out on a field. Completely emaciated and in an absolutely desolate state. Her fur was crusty with stinking dirt and feces, her claws deeply embedded in her paw pads, and her teeth needed treatment long ago. We'll spare you the photo documentation. After a warm bath, some TLC, and lots of love, Lilly bloomed day by day. Today, Lilly is cheerful and even demands little walks, showing her sweet temperament with occasional small jumps. Her golden fur flows in the wind, and her big eyes look up questioningly often as if to check – "am I doing everything right?" Lilly is though an old girl but she is only loving and full of joy. New things sometimes unsettle her and make her afraid, then we just have to be calm by Lilly's side and show her that nothing bad will happen. In a short while, she has another appointment to get her teeth done, and then she could set off into her new life. We are looking for a home for Lilly where she is simply drenched in love. It should be cozy, because Lilly likes to sleep very deeply and soundly in her soft, cuddly bed – BUT Lilly also wants to run little laps. Lilly would love to use a (preferably fully enclosed) garden, if available. There shouldn't be too many stairs for the little one to navigate, but a few steps are no problem for the sweetie. Oh yes, did we mention Lilly's age? Hmm, we were told that Lilly might be older than 13 years. Is that true? We don't know. Ultimately, age is just a number and Lilly doesn't care about it at all. She lives in the present and simply enjoys every beautiful day. Maybe soon with you?

About Lilly

What life with Lilly looks like

Lilly is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Melle in Melle.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lilly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lilly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Melle handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lilly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lilly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Melle will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lilly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lilly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Melle early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lilly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
