Lily

Greyhound Β· Female Β· Young Β· 1 year

Lily is a young girl who has spent some time in a racing environment. She is very nervous around people, especially new people so is going to need a family that is willing to be patient and give her time to settle down. Lily needs to learn that new people mean no harm and build up her confidence. Lily will need all of the basic training once she goes home, as she has never lived in a home before. We feel that once she has settled down in a home and built up her confidence she will make a great companion who will enjoy going on adventures and having plenty of cuddles. Greyhounds can have cheeky personalities and are quite playful dogs once they come out of their shell. Lily just needs a family that will give her the chance to become this and with her young age still has her whole life ahead. We feel that Lily would benefit from a calm, quiet adult household. No children visiting. Experience with the breed or nervous rescue dogs would be beneficial. Lily can be nervous around dogs but is paired in a kennel with another greyhound. We feel that she could potentially live with another dog of the same breed to help bring her out of her shell, as she does seem more confident when her kennel mate is around- subject to a successful meet.

About Lily

What life with Lily looks like

Lily is a large young adult greyhound dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) in Warrington.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lily, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lily?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lily on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lily if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lily already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lily isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Cheshire) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lily and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
