Adopt Lio

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Lio is a roundly lovable, cheerful, and very people-oriented male dog. He was found as a newborn – only a few hours old, with the umbilical cord still present – in a trash can. Fortunately, he was discovered in time and lovingly nurtured. Since then, he has been raised in a home and knows how to live in close contact with people very well. In everyday life, Lio shows himself to be a pleasant roommate: he is house-trained, doesn’t break anything, and stays clean. He especially loves his toys. His routines are well-known: he reliably goes out in the morning around 7 AM and in the afternoon between 4 and 5 PM to relieve himself. Lio is an energetic, lively dog, likely a Setter-Mix. He loves walks – he currently pulls a bit on the leash out of excitement, but this can certainly be trained. Lio gets along well with other dogs. He especially loves female dogs. With other male dogs, he is initially a bit unsure but warms up and plays with them. Similarly, with strangers: he is initially a bit reserved, but his curiosity and affection win out, and he enthusiastically gives kisses. Lio finds children wonderful and plays very much with them. He also knows cats – he gets along with them, but shows them a bit of caution and a little fear. In total, Lio is an absolute sunbeam: happy, playful, warm, and full of joy. For active people or families who want a lively, attached companion, Lio is a wonderful life partner. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Lio

What life with Lio looks like

Lio is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
