Little Fighter Seeks His Forever HomeThis little dwarf ram was born on March 19 and didn't have an easy start in life. He arrived with his family in very poor general condition, and unfortunately, he was the only male in his litter. The veterinary examination revealed crooked and misaligned teeth, a severe deficiency in vitamins and calcium, and as a result, an impaired gait. Moreover, the little guy was alarmingly thin.Meanwhile, he’s being lovingly nursed back to health and is already making initial progress. His teeth have been corrected by a veterinarian, and he’s receiving the necessary care to address his deficiencies. His vet is confident that with proper care and nutrition, he’ll make a full recovery.Despite his difficult beginnings, he’s a lovable little dwarf ram who now deserves the chance for a happy rabbit life.As soon as his health allows, he’d love to move into an experienced home with plenty of rabbit-savvy people. A prerequisite is species-appropriate housing with ample space and at least one compatible rabbit companion—single housing is definitely out of the question for him.If you’d like to give this little fighter the opportunity for a fresh start with patience, love, and expertise, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.Note on Rabbit Placement:Before submitting an inquiry, please carefully read our placement conditions for small animals. All our rabbits have undergone veterinary examinations and are vaccinated. As a rule, fecal tests have also been conducted. The rams are too young for a DVT (dental radiograph).

About Lio

What life with Lio looks like

Lio is a small puppy/kitten rabbit waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
