Lion

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Lion’s story is one of heartbreak, resilience, and an unwavering will to survive. This stunning Rottweiler was found on the streets in a horrific state—nothing but skin and bone, desperately searching for help from anyone who would meet his pleading eyes. Weak and starving, he wandered the streets, hoping that someone would take pity on him. And they did—three times. Each time, a kind-hearted person took Lion in, wanting to give him the care he so desperately needed. But each time, because he was microchipped, he was returned to his neglectful owner, only to be abandoned again shortly after. The third time he was found wandering the streets, he was on the brink of collapse. His body could no longer fight the battle against starvation, and his spirit, though strong, was beginning to fade. That was when we were contacted for help. We immediately took Lion in, determined to give him the second chance he deserved. However, his journey to safety was far from simple. Because of his microchip, he was still legally registered to his previous owner, and despite his obvious state of neglect, bureaucracy stood in the way of us claiming him as our own. We spent months going back and forth with the Veterinary Agency in North Macedonia, fighting to ensure that Lion would never be returned to the life that had almost killed him. Finally, after a long and exhausting battle, we succeeded—Lion was officially registered under our care. With the right nutrition, medical attention, and most importantly, love, Lion slowly transformed. His skeletal frame filled out, his coat grew shiny and healthy, and his eyes, once dull with exhaustion, began to shine with life. It took months of dedicated care, but today, Lion is fully healthy, strong, and ready to find the forever home he has always deserved. True to his Rottweiler nature, Lion is a dog with a big personality and an even bigger love for toys. If it squeaks, it might as well be the greatest treasure in the world to him—he will do absolutely anything for his favorite squeaky toys, carrying them around like prized possessions. He is playful, intelligent, and eager to engage, making him an excellent companion for someone who understands the breed and is willing to provide the mental and physical stimulation he needs. Lion’s past has left some scars, and one of them is his food possessiveness. Having spent so much of his life starving, he is extremely protective of his meals around other dogs and must be fed separately to avoid any potential issues. This is not unusual for dogs who have suffered extreme neglect, and with the right approach and training, he can learn to trust that he will never go hungry again. Lion needs an experienced owner, someone who understands Rottweilers or similar breeds. He is strong, both physically and in personality, and requires a confident handler who can provide structure, guidance, and leadership. Rottweilers are known for their loyalty and intelligence, but they thrive best with clear boundaries and consistent training. Because he has never lived inside a home, Lion is not toilet trained and will need patience and routine to learn the rules of indoor living. He is a blank slate in this regard, but his willingness to learn and please makes him a great candidate for training with the right person. Despite everything he has been through, Lion still has an incredible capacity for love. He wants nothing more than to find a person who will be as loyal to him as he will be to them. He is a dog who has known suffering but has emerged stronger, ready to embrace a future filled with warmth, care, and companionship. If you are an experienced dog owner looking for a devoted and playful companion, Lion may be the perfect match for you. He has fought hard for his second chance—now, all he needs is someone to finally give him the home he has always deserved.

About Lion

What life with Lion looks like

Lion is a small adult mixed breed animal waiting at Amospet in Skopje.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Lion far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lion, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lion?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Amospet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lion on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lion if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Amospet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lion already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lion isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Amospet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lion and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
