Lionel

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Mixed breed, born 12/2025, approximately 45 cm tall. Gets along with: male dogs, female dogs, and cats. Not yet tested with children. Lionel is currently living with our friends at a Spanish animal shelter, where he’s patiently waiting to finally be discovered by the right people. We don’t know his past, but we sincerely hope that his future will be filled with love, security, and wonderful shared experiences. This handsome male dog, with his extraordinary, speckled coat and attentive gaze, has everything it takes to be a loyal companion. At the shelter, Lionel shows himself to be compatible with other dogs. He also approaches cats with friendliness and calmness at first sight. Like every young dog, Lionel longs to explore the world, gain new experiences, and grow together with his humans. He needs people who will gently and patiently take him by the paw, provide him with a sense of security, and support him as he develops into a confident and well-balanced companion. It’s likely that Lionel hasn’t had much opportunity to experience much so far. Therefore, he still has quite a bit to learn—from the small rules of everyday life to the big adventures life has in store for him. But with patience, understanding, and loving guidance, he’ll master it all. We wish for him a home where he’s not just another dog, but a full-fledged family member—a home where he can feel safe, loved, and know that he’s finally found his place in life. Perhaps Lionel is exactly waiting for the people who’ll accept him just as he is—with his gentle nature, his curiosity, and his big heart. Who would like to give Lionel the chance to leave the shelter behind and finally step into his new life? Of course, Lionel will be microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, registered, and thoroughly examined by a veterinarian before being rehomed. He’s also been tested for Mediterranean diseases and will bring an EU pet passport with him to his new home. All the photos we have of Lionel have been compiled into a slideshow at the top of this page. Just take your time and browse through the images, or feel free to click on them to view the next one. Mischling geb. About Lionel

What life with Lionel looks like

Lionel is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. in Essingen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lionel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lionel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lionel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lionel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lionel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lionel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hoffnungsvolle Tierherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lionel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
