Lira

European Shorthair · Unknown

I am Lira, a 2-year-old beautiful tabby and white cat. My coat combines the elegance of stripes with the brightness of my white spots, but what truly defines me is the gentleness I keep inside, waiting for the right moment to come out. Unfortunately, I come from a difficult past where I was not well cared for. Due to that unfair experience, the world still gives me a bit of respect and I am quite wary at first. I get scared with sudden movements or loud noises, so I need my own space to process that the bad things are over. I'm not looking for miracles overnight; I'm looking for a patient, kind, and understanding family that understands my shyness and respects my time. I know that with gentle pets, a calm environment, and a lot of love, I will learn to let go of my fears and trust again. Will you help me leave the past behind and start a happy life by your side?

ES·Show original

About Lira

What life with Lira looks like

Lira is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Centro de Proteccion Animal de Madrid in Madrid.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Centro de Proteccion Animal de Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Centro de Proteccion Animal de Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Centro de Proteccion Animal de Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
